Independence Day | Eat Your Way Through Tokyo

from $200.00

Beyond the Base Tours · July 2–5, 2026
For service members stationed anywhere in Japan

You're stationed in Japan. But how much of it have you actually eaten?

Not the ramen place everyone on base recommends. The real stuff — the kissaten with no English sign, the konamon you cook yourself at the table, the wagashi you make with your own hands and eat while it's still fresh.

That’s what this tour is about.
Three days of eating your way through Tokyo like a local—trying a wide variety of foods that locals know and love.

This is for people who want to try authentic Japanese food that locals enjoy.

Hi, I'm Miharu, founder of Japan Planned Tours. I'm Japanese, and my husband is US Air Force — which means I've spent years helping service members discover the Japan that most would never get to see. Every restaurant, every snack stand, every stop on this tour is my personal pick.
This is the Tokyo I'd take my friends to!

Pricing
All prices per person

  • Double (2 people sharing): $700

  • Single (private room): $880

After this tour
We hope that when you leave Tokyo, you take with you not just wonderful memories and a full stomach — but also the confidence to one day explore Japan on your own.

  • Hello, I’m Miharu.

I was born and raised in Kyoto, and tourism and hospitality have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in Japan’s service industry — including with ANA (All Nippon Airways) — where I developed a deep appreciation for thoughtful travel experiences and caring for guests from around the world.

Over the years, I’ve planned more than 100 custom trips for travelers visiting Japan and have personally led multiple small-group tours. I also hold Japan’s national certification in domestic tourism, which allows me to design experiences that go beyond the surface — connecting guests with the culture, history, and everyday life that make Japan so special.

What I love most about guiding is seeing Japan through my guests’ eyes — sharing places that are meaningful to me, introducing regional foods and traditions, and helping travelers feel comfortable and confident throughout their journey.

My goal is simple: I want you to experience Japan not just as a visitor, but with the insight and care of traveling alongside a local friend.

If you’re considering joining this tour, I would love to meet you and answer your questions. Please feel free to schedule a call with me anytime.
